Pune, September 2, 2017: Puneri Paltan, one of the top performing teams of Pro Kabaddi League in association with MultiFit recently organized a self-defence and safety workshop for women. The workshop was held on Saturday 2nd September, 2017 at the Senapati Bapat road outlet of MultiFit from 11.30 AM to 12.30PM. The workshop was conducted by Chief mentor of Puneri Paltan and veteran Kabaddi player Mr. Ashok Shinde. During the workshop, he demonstrated various moves from Kabaddi that would help women and girls in their self-defence in case of an emergency.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashok Shinde Chief Mentor of Puneri Paltan said, “Kabaddi is like a combat game. Many of Kabaddi’s moves are similar to the moves in martial arts. It was a pleasure for me to impart the knowledge that I have. It is of utmost importance for women to be well prepared, and I hope they have taken away good learnings from this session. I would love to conduct such workshops in near future as well.”
The workshop received an overwhelming response with participation from about 100 plus women from Pune. Many techniques including those that use natural instinct, choke defence, kicks and punches, well-known martial art moves, etc. were demonstrated at the workshop. Some basic ground rules like using one’s intuition and doing what feels right in the quickest possible way or running to the nearest police station without waiting in the same spot were also covered in the session.
Commenting on the occasion, Kailash Kandpal CEO of Puneri Paltan said, “It is important for women and girls to know what to do when they are attacked. We at Puneri Paltan believe in empowering women. Self-defence workshops are the best way to educate women on potential threats and create an awareness about women safety. It was heartening to see women from different sectors come in large numbers to participate in this workshop. We would continue to support women empowerment and continue doing such initiatives.”
