Teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji discussed at UILS
Chandigarh, November 1, 2019: University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University organised a session on the topic, ‘Teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji: A contemporary Perspective’, in commemoration of the 550th Birth Anniversary of the First Sikh Guru and universal teacher and social reformer, here today.
Dr.Darya, from the Punjabi Department, GNDU, Amritsar enlightened the audience about the massive influence of Guru Nanak on all aspects of society and culture, be it the language, literature, customs and beliefs, caste and social empowerment etc. Dr Darya shed light on facets of the spiritual message of one world-one God, universal goodwill and humility that makes Guru Nanak’s message so pertinent today.
Prof.Yog Raj Angrish, from Panjab University expounded on the teachings of Guru Nanak that hold true even after the lapse of five centuries. Guru Nanak’s emphasis on honest livelihood, hard work, remaining pure even in the dirt of the world like a lotus that blooms even in a dirty pond is like a beacon of light for people today.
Dr.Parveen Kumar, a faculty member of University School of Open Learning (USOL), Panjab University also expressed his deep reverence for Guru Nanak and hailed the Guru as the pioneer of gender sensitisation and spiritual elevation. As a highly venerated spiritual teacher, Guru Nanak was able to utilise his influence to bring about widespread social reform and change.
Earlier, Prof.Rattan Singh, Director, UILS explained the audience of the continual and increasing relevance of Guru Nanak’s message of universal peace, brotherhood and tolerance. Prof. Singh emphasised that in a globalised world, the values of humanitarian outlook, equality of all human beings and selfless service need to be emulated today, more than ever before.
