Tarn Taran leads in paddy procurement

Chandigarh, October,7, 2012: Paddy procurement is on full swing in Punjab Government agencies and private millers procured more than 2,96,795  tonnes of paddy till last evening. The state government  has made arrangements for the procurement of 150 lac MT of paddy in 1,770 notified mandis/purchase centers against the expected arrival of 135 lac MT during the current Kharif season.

The Spokesman of the Punjab government said that out of total procurement of 2,96,795 tonnes of paddy in all the procurement centers of Punjab, government agencies procured 1,48,087 tonnes of paddy till date whereas private traders procured 1,48,708 tonnes of paddy.

Till October 6, PUNGRAIN procured 39,910 tonnes (27.0%), MARKFED procured 29,128 tonnes (19.7%). whereas PUNSUP had procured 27,209 tonnes (18.4%) PSWC procured 7,510  tonnes (5.1%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 15,967 tonnes (10.8 %) of paddy.The Central Government agency FCI had  been able to procure 28,363  tonnes (19.2%). 

The Spokesman added that District Tarn Taran with 77,626 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Amritsar with 5,1830 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Kapurthla with 32,252  tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
