Dharamshala, October 1, 2015: Faf du Plessis, the T20 captain South Africa's T20 captain Faf du Plessis said the Indian tour will help his players prepare for the mega event the next year’s T20 world cup .
“I am excited for this tour because its in India, where we are going to play the World T20,” du Plessis said.
Talking to media in Dharamshala just a day before the start of their 72 day Indian tour South African T20 captain Faf du Plessis said , “We have to concentrate on the Test matches too which are at the fag end of the tour as the pressure is on us to keep our team at No 1 position in Tests.”
Both sides lag behind in the T20 rankings. The Proteas, the number one Test side in the world, are sixth and India, second in one-day cricket, are fourth in the shortest format. as many as 10 players in the current squad take part in the IPL and will know what to expect in the T 20 series in India.
Plessis said, “though the sun is out in Dharamshala for the last few days, still there is heavy moisture beneath the surface, which is defiantly going to affect the bowlers. It the wicket start helping the spinner, we have around three top bowlers to meet the challenge.”
He said that Dharamshala is the most beautiful cricketing centre of the world and we love to start our tour from this centre.
He also praises the IPL format of the game in India which brought friendship among the cricketers of the world.
Plessis said that Hashim Amla, captain in Tests; and AB de Villiers, the ODI skipper are part of all three squads - lending enough brains to handle MS Dhoni's tactical prowess during the limited-overs leg and Virat Kohli's aggression in Tests.
"Three captains are working beautifully for us," Plessis said. "There's always a fresh mind coming into things. There has not been one instance where one individual has had a different perspective; the great thing is we play all the formats together, continuously learn from each other."
South Africa go into the opening match recovering from a stunning eight-wicket defeat by an effectively third-string Indian side in a practice T20 match in New Delhi on Tuesday.
