SWAYAM-NPTEL Local Chapter of GNDEC organized Online Courses Awareness Workshop

Ludhiana: SWAYAM-NPTEL Local Chapter of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana organized Online Courses Awareness Workshop. Workshop was inaugurated by college principal Prof(Dr.) Sehijpal Singh Khangura on 11th July. He encouraged the participants by sharing the importance of online education in this era. Faculty from different departments participated in this workshop. Dr.Narwant Singh Grewal was Workshop Coordinator for this event. Recourse person Prof.Lakhveer Singh Khana explained importance of MOOC’s and NPTEL Online Certificate Courses in two days. He discussed enrolment & registration process of online learning so that maximum student can get benefits of online courses.
It is mentionable that NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) is a joint initiative of the IITs and IISc. Through this initiative NPTEL offer online courses and certification in various topics. Online course are Free for all and for Certification exam, a nominal fee is there. SC/ST candidates have provision to waive off 50% of applicable fee. In same pattern, PWD candidates can also get benefit at concessional rates. There is a unique facility to learn anytime, anywhere! Only requirement is Interest and enthusiasm to learn.
Moreover, UGC & AICTE have notified to transfer the credits earned by student though online course certificate in his/her academic record by concerned university/college. Maximum 20% of the total credits can be earned through open online courses in particular semester. Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana have also introduced credit transfer policy from academic year 2018 under which every student will earn total 20 credits in 4 years graduation program in different disciplines through MOOC’s. Only then a student will be eligible to get bachelor degree with distinction or minor engineering.
Dr. K. S. Gill (Dean Academic) ensured that all the facilities required for open courses will be provided to faculty as applicable. At the end of workshop, ,Dr. Amit Kamra, Prof. Manpreet Singh Sidhu, Prof. Rupinder Kaur, Prof. Jagjit Kaur, Prof. Sukhinderpal Singh and all faculty members supported to organize this event.
