Ludhiana, March 3, 2017: On October 21, 2017, Ashwini Kumar, a resident of Gill Road, Ludhiana had come to Hero DMC Heart Institute for his cardiac examination as he was already undergoing treatment for his high blood pressure and hypertension problem. While standing in the waiting area of the hospital, Ashwini Kumar felt sudden uneasiness in his chest and got collapsed on the floor.
DMCH and Hero DMCH Heart Institute has established a very effective set up of ‘Code Blue Team’ for the past few years which gets activated when any such incident occurs within the hospital premises and the team of doctors and nursing staff reaches the spot within few seconds of getting the information.
In this case also, team of doctors and nursing staff including Dr Rohit Tandon, Dr Dinesh and Nursing Supervisor Manjit Kaur Bawa immediately rushed to the spot where patient Ashwani Kumar was lying fully unconscious on the floor as his breathing had absolutely stopped and his lips had also turned blue. As per the prescribed guidelines, ‘Code Blue’ team started doing Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) of patient which lasted for around 40 minutes which included several rounds of multiple type of shocks and chest compressions as well.
Finally, the team was able to put the patient on ventilator and artificial support to the heart was given. A team doctors under the guidance of Dr Bishav Mohan felt a very bleak chance for the patient to survive as his heart was very week and had stopped functioning because of blockage in major arteries of the heart. The team of doctors at HDHI decided to give patient a chance to survive by opening his blocked artery and stunting was done to regularize the normal functioning of heart .
After undergoing eleven days of treatment in the hospital, patient Ashwini Kumar is absolutely fit and will be discharged today evening. The family of the patient profoundly thanked the team of doctors and nurses of HDHI who left no stone unturned in keeping Ashwini Kumar alive.
Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta lauded the team of doctors and paramedical staff, who have demonstrated an exemplary job in providing immediately best possible care to the patient visiting the hospital.
