Dharamsala, April 17, 2015: In the Long Jump event of men Sunka Ram of Haryana got 1st place In 85 +age group by leaping for 2.18 mtrs, in the 36th Masters Athletics Championship being played at Sports Complex, Dharamsala.
On the second day of the event Long Jump for men was completed. The rest of the first positions in this field are: age group 35+ Anil Kumar of Haryana 6.05M, 40+ Gurjinder Singh Hothi of Punjab 5.60M, 45+ Ajhar Ali of UP 5.20M, 50+ Jagir Singh of Punjab 4.90M, 55+ Satnam Singh of Punjab 4.58m, 60+ Vijay Bahadur Mishra of UP 4.88M , 65+ Patel Mahindera P of Gujrat 4.50m , 70+ N Nabac Chander of Manipur 3.40m, 75+ Chhajju Ram of Punjab 3.28m , 80+ K Ibhol Singh of Manipur 3.49m and 85+ Sunka Ram of Haryana 2.18m.
President of Masters Athletics Federation of India said that in this four days long Athletics meet Veterans athletes, around 2000 are participating in both men and women category from Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Chandigarh, Chattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Kerela .
The most elderly athlete participating is Ramachandra Reddy aged 93 years from Telengana State. Sharma said, “The selected Athletics of this event would further participate in World Masters Athletics Championship to be held in Lyon in France from 4th to 16th August, 2015.” He informed that the Indian team which represented in Pan-Pacific Masters Games in Gold Coast Australia last year had won seven gold medals. Chief Minister Himachal Pradesh Vir Bhadra Singh earlier inaugurated the four days long national meet in Dharamsala on Thursday.
