Chandigarh, November12, 2013: Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal felicitated Olympian Heena Sidhu for her heroic victory in the World Cup Final in Munich, Germany, on Sunday.

In a felicitation message to Heena, Badal, who is also, the Sports Minister Punjab appreciated the level of commitment and determination of the Indian woman Shooter who has created history by becoming the first pistol exponent from India to win a gold medal at the ISSF World Cup finals in Munich, Germany.

Badal  hoped that the young shooter Heena after winning this title in Olympics would certainly become a paradigm for the promising players of our country to promote sports at international level.  Lauding the achievement of Heena Sidhu, Badal said that the young Punjabi shooter has done both India and Punjab proud.

Reiterating his commitment to promote sports activities in Punjab, Badal said that, four world-class centres of excellence in sports would be set up at Amritsar, Bathinda, Mohali and Jalandhar. To ensure world-class facilities in the upcoming centers of excellence, hi-tech training to sportspersons and professional coaches would be made available, he said. The budget for sports in Punjab has been enhanced from Rs 12 crore to Rs 142 crore during     2013-14, he added. The government would focus on maximum participation of the players in the Olympics, he said.
