In the first phase, the state government sanctioned funds amounting to Rs.15 Crore (approximately) for the procurement of 220 Bolero LX Vehicles and 400 Honda Unicorn motorcycles for intensive patrolling in Rural areas under the banner of Rapid Rural Response Scheme (RRPRS) and under this scheme, police assistance is made available to the remotest rural areas in less than 20 minutes. This scheme was launched from Jalandhar by Deputy Chief Minister, Punjab on July 1, 2016.
In the second phase, as a further step to modernise and strengthen operational capability of the Punjab Police to combat crime in urban areas, the state government has further sanctioned funds amounting to Rs. 10,02,12,000 for the purchase of 150 Maruti Ertiga vehicles and its branding.
