Ferozpur, August 19, 2019: SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal today appealed to the Akali rank and cadre to fan out in flood affected areas to provide immediate relief to the people.
Addressing public meetings here, the SAD president said he had received reports that the Youth Akali Dal (YAD) had done commendable work in flood affected villages in Nawanshahr and Ropar besides others parts of the State. “I urge the Akali cadre to intensify this stir to provide all possible help to our flood-stricken brethren”, he added.
Badal also announced that once the SAD-BJP government is returned to power in 2022, it would develop Ferozepur on the pattern of Bathinda. He said even as MP he is undertaking a series of works including better rail connectivity and establishment of food processing units in the district. He said he had also called upon the Union Health minister recently to request him for early functioning of the PGI Satellite centre at Ferozepur.
The SAD president also took CM Capt Amarinder Singh for ignoring the poor and infirm by delaying the central government’s Ayushman Bharat medical insurance scheme which would provide an annual health cover of Rs.5 lakh per family by more than one year. He said this smacked of nothing but politics. “The government has done nothing but rebrand the scheme and named it Sehat Bima Yojna to take credit for the same despite the fact that the central government has provided 60 per cent of funding under the scheme”.
Badal said it was condemnable that the medical insurance scheme, which was aimed at saving innocent lives, was being launched after one year on the birth anniversary of former PM Rajiv Gandhi whose hands were stained with the blood of innocent Sikhs in Delhi. “We condemn this move to play politics over central schemes”, he added.
