Chandigarh, November 7, 2019: As many as 75 patients were screened during a kidney related problems free check-up camp by Alchemist Hospital Panchkula at Aggarwal Nursing Home Kurukeshtra on Thursday.

During camp, Dr Neeraj Goyal, consultant urologist & kidney transplant surgeon and Dr Charanjit Lal, senior consultant Nephrology provided free consultations to the patients.

Speaking during occasion, Dr Goyal said that kidney failure is worse disease than many of the cancers and causes early death if not treated appropriately.

He said that common causes of kidney failure are diabetes, hypertension, glomerulonephritis, untreated stones and kidney infections and injudicious use of certain drugs.

After kidney failure a patient has to live on dialysis or can opt for kidney transplant. Kidney transplant offers several advantages and is always the best option for suitable patients. The quality of life is unmatched after a successful transplant and offers cure from kidney failure, remarked Dr Goyal.

He further said that with modern immunosuppressant medications and refined surgical techniques, the success rate of kidney transplant has improved drastically approaching 95%.

As per Indian law, any healthy person can voluntarily donate one of its kidneys to his/her near relatives suffering from kidney failure. Voluntary donors have no ill effect on their health and lead a normal life with single kidney, informed Dr Goyal.

Dr Lal said that kidney transplant is the best treatment option for patients suffering from chronic end stage kidney disease.

End stage kidney disease is a condition, in which both kidneys are permanently damaged and can no longer perform their primary function of filtering toxins, wastes and extra fluids from the body, he maintained .

Voluntary kidney donation purely out of love and affection is the biggest donation ever seen in mankind through ages. This supreme sacrifice by the near and dear ones gives a new life to a kidney patient who otherwise has been living a very difficult life either on dialysis or medicines alone, asserted Dr Lal.

Dr Lal said that the main objective of organising this camp is to create awareness among the masses, sensitize the kidney patients and their caregivers and to screen and guidance to those who are willing for it in future.

We feel today’s efforts will bring a change in attitude of not only the Kidney patients but also the general public at large which will further help us curb the deadly chronic kidney disease, he opined.
