STRY on fish rearing and management concludes

Ludhiana, July 29, 2019: Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) is aimed at imparting skill-based training to rural youth on agri-based vocational areas in agriculture & allied sectors to promote employment of unemployed rural youth and for creation of skilled manpower to perform farm and non-farm operations.

In Punjab, STRY is being organized by Punjab Agricultural Management & Extension Training Institute (PAMETI) in collaboration with various institutes in Agriculture & Allied Sectors.

Training on Fish Rearing & Management was held from 22nd to 27th July, 2019 in collaboration with Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Science University.

During the inauguration, Dr H S Dhaliwal, Director PAMETI said that the aim of such programmes is to provide hands on training to the participants so that they can start their own ventures in fish and shrimp farming. He further added that such trainings are focussed to increase employment opportunities in agriculture and allied sectors, agro-industry, rural services and related vocations.

Experts from GADVASU interacted with participants and made them aware about the recent advances in the field of fish rearing & management so that they could adopt it as a commercial activity. Practical aspects of the training was conducted at College of Fisheries where various faculty members gave demonstrations on different culture and management technologies. An exposure visit was taken to Village Karondia, Payal where Mr Jasvir Singh, a progressive fish farmer discussed his story of setting fish farm and trainees also visited the government fish market at Tajpur road to see the marketing facilities being provided by the department.
