Strong women leaders participated in an interactive session on ‘Role of Women in Social and Corporate Life at LPU campus
Jalandhar, August 10, 2018: Lovely Professional University celebrated the spirit of womanhood with a pride at its Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium with 3500+ students and faculty members. The occasion was an interactive session on ‘role of women in social and corporate life’. On this occasion, many activities including Gender sensitization interactions, audience engagement, question-answer round and more were held to substantiate the occasion. Women leaders from different walks of life including Chairman, Planning Board of Punjab Ms Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, former member, Punjab Legislative Assembly Ms Navjot Kaur Sidhu and Spokesperson, Indian National Congress (INC) and President of Delhi Mahilla Congress Ms Sharmistha Mukherjee shared their views. Addressing the massive audience, Chairman, Planning Board of Punjab Ms Rajinder Kaur Bhattal shared, “I have witnessed the ever-growing journey of LPU, since I was the Education Minister of Punjab and I am more than happy to see that, the seed sowed has now grown into a tree which is transforming the lives of many. I also congratulate LPU for getting ranked as top 5 universities in India.” She also added, “Despite any gender, youth plays an important role in determining the type of society we will have in future. A better functioning country needs a visionary youth and passionate enough to contribute their part.” Stressing on the role of women, Spokesperson, INC and President of Delhi Mahilla Congress Ms Sharmistha Mukherjee shared, “Indian law is one of the best examples of women getting equal rights, and be it be maternity leave, Vishakha guidelines and many such laws that have been there in our constitution to give equal status to the women in all facets of life.” she also said, “There is a need for everyone and especially the men to understand the limits of modesty. As it is rightly said, if you educate a man, you educate a person but if you educate a woman, you educate a family.” She further added, “there is a need to open a gender club where all can sit together despite any gender and freely have an exchange of thoughts.” Motivating the young minds in the auditorium, former member, Punjab Legislative Assembly Ms Navjot Kaur Sidhu shared, “In the era of generating equal opportunities, ‘the role of women’ has become the Buzzword with women working alongside men in all spheres. They profess an independent outlook, whether they are living inside their home or working outside. They are increasingly gaining control over their lives and taking their own decisions with regard to their education, career, profession, and lifestyle.” She further added, “all women and men should come forward to fight against molestation; remove ego and help the older ones.” Answering to a question of journalism student Neharika about the process of choosing the correct path to attain a balance between corporate and social life; Spokesperson, INC Ms Sharmistha Mukherjee said, “to attain such balance, one must have a right attitude to deal with the real-life situations. There is no set of rules to follow instead it comes through wisdom.” Answering to how women contribute towards the society, former member, Punjab Legislative Assembly Ms Navjot Kaur Sidhu said, “There is a need for today’s women to be self-independent and men to be cooperative and understanding for their wives.”
