Starting July 13, Panjab University to run English Proficiency Course

Chandigarh, June 12, 2016: Starting July 13, the Panjab University (PU) will run an English Proficiency Course with an online component exclusively customized for its international students.
At a meeting on Higher Education on March 20, 2016 at the ICCR, Delhi, all the representatives from Indian universities agreed that these students come to India with limited exposure to English; hence some measures need to be taken to help them.
It was decided that they would join their Indian universities much before the commencement of the academic session in order to attend English courses.
The first batch of sixty five students arrived at the PU on June 6. From June 6 to 13, they settled down in PU hostels, got acclimatized, adjusted to the campus and attended the Yoga camp. The Department of English meanwhile trained its teachers for the online teaching mode and with the supervision of the coordinator of the EPC,Prof. Pushpinder Syal, the course begins tomorrow.
The English Proficiency Course is compulsory for all foreign students who join PU and its affiliated colleges. This batch of students forms part of a pilot study to assess the efficacy of the added online component. Each student can utilize the online instruction and materials and also attend face-to-face sessions for the whole academic year.
