St Peter’s Residential School’s Two Day Second Chairman’s Trophy Inter School Basketball Tournament kicked off
Hyderabad, August 30, 2018: St Peter’s Residential School and DRS International Schools dominate on the day one of the two day St. Peter’s Residential School’s Chairman’s Trophy Inter School Basketball tournament and will compete with each other in all the three categories of the tournament—Under 13 Boys and Under 16 Boys and Girls, in Finals to be held tomorrow The inaugural match was Under 16 Boys and held between St. Peter’s Residential School and VS Oak Valley. In the second match IVY Leagues competed with Sri Vidyanjali and 3rd Match was held between Oak Vally and Mamatha School Girls. On the whole, 16 matches held today. Both Quarter and Semi Finals matches too were conducted. St. Peter’s and DRS Intl School reached finals in all the three categories. Ten teams comprising of 276 students from DRS International, Pallavi Model School, Jain International School, Oak Valley, HAL Public School, Mamtha High School, CMR Intl School, IVY League Academy, SRI Vidyanjali High School and St. Peter’s Residential School participated in the tournament. The Tournament was earlier inaugurated formally by Vinay Yadav, veteral Basketball player who represented India at international level tournaments and presently working as a Customs Officer. Bal Reddy, Founder and Chairman of St. Peter’s also graced the inaugural function. Addressing the gathering, Vinay Yadav said, Basketball is picking up in the city. More tournaments are being organized in the city. Junior NBA(National Basketball Association) is popularizing the sport in India and in Hyderabad. Vinay Yadav was the Chief Guest for the inaugural function. Basketball teaches about being a good team player and can be a great social sport. Basketball burns calories, builds bone strength, boosts mental development. It enhances students confidence. Basketball is a very important sport in USA, Vinay Yadav added. Vinay Yadav interacted with players. He and Bal Reddy, Chairman of the St. Peter’s Residential School also tried their hands in throwing ball into the hoop just to mark the inauguration of the tournament. Vinay Yadav also formally declared the tournament open TV Reddy, Correspondent of the School observed that in Basketball every player is action, unlike Cricket. Basketball may not be well known here in India, but, it is a popular game of the world. The winning team will be presented a Rolling Trophy and Rs 8000/- cash prize. The Runner-up team will get a Trophy and Rs 5000/- cash prize. Saroja Reddy, Director of St. Peter's Residential School graced the inaugural function. The Tournament will conclude on Sunday.
