Sports Deptt organises district-level sports competitions in Ludhiana

Ludhiana, August 6, 2019: Under the Mission Tandrust Punjab of the Punjab government, the Sports Department today organised District-level sports competitions (boys/girls) U-25, of 17 different sporting events.

The sports events included athletics, basketball, badminton, table tennis, football, kabaddi, kho kho, gymnastics, wrestling, volleyball, hockey, handball, boxing, swimming, weight lifting, roller skating at Guru Nanak Stadium, here today.

Around 1209 sportspersons are competing in this event.

In the Kho Kho semi-final match (boys), Govt Sr Sec School (Boys), Jawahar Nagar beat Shefali International School by 13-5 and Azad Club Pamal beat Govt Sr Sec School (Boys), Jawahar Nagar by 9-4 to reach the finals. In the Kho Kho semi final match (girls), Govt College for Girls beat Govt Girls Senior Secondary School Bharat Nagar by 14-11 and team of village Galib Kalan defeat Shefali International School by 11-6 to reach the finals.

In volleyball (boys), Guru Nanak Stadium team defeated Sahi Sports College Samrala by 2-0, coaching centre Naresh Chandra Stadium Khanna team defeated Sarhali Club by 2-0 and Rohan team defeated Rajemajra Club by 2-0.

In Badminton (boys) individual competition, Nitish Chopra beat Navneet Singh by 2-0, Pardeep Yadav beat Agam Sood by 2-0, Aryan beat Karan Kumar 2-0 and Rajat Budhiraj beat Varun Kumar 2-0.

In athletics 400 m (boys) race, Baljit Singh (Guru Nanak Stadium Ludhiana) stood first, Kunwar (Govt College Boys) second, Suraj (Guru Nanak Stadium) third, and in girls category, Vipanjit Kaur (GNGC Ludhiana) stood first, Lovepreet Kaur (Ramgarhia Girls College) second and Yamini (GNGC Ludhiana) stood third. In 1500 m (boys), Ranjot (Kamla Lohtia College) stood first, Ajay Kumar (Guru Nanak Stadium) second and Mohveer (Ludhiana) third. In girls category, Usha Rani (Ramgarhia Girls College) stood first, Amanpreet (GNGC Ludhiana) second and Omwati Kumari (Ramgarhia Girls College) third.

In shotput (boys), Harjot Singh (National College Doraha) stood first, Jaspreet Singh (Khalsa College Gurusar Sudhar) second and Varanraj Singh (Dugri) third. In girls category, Gurbani Kaur (GHG Khalsa College Gurusar Sudhar) stood first, Kamaldeep Kaur (GHG Khalsa College Gurusar Sudhar) second and Amandeep Kaur (Ludhiana) stood third.

In the final match of Basketball (girls), Khalsa College for Women defeated Government College for Girls by 46-23. In handball (boys), Govt College for Boys Ludhiana defeated GRD School by 22-4 and PAU team defeated Govt Sr Sec School, Cemetery Road by 18-10.

District Sports Officer, Ludhiana, Ravinder Singh has informed that Punjab government and Sports Department Punjab is organising Punjab State Sports Boys/Girls in different parts of the state. He informed that the selection trials for district Ludhiana U-14, U-18 and U-25 teams of archery, chess and fencing would be held at the Multipurpose Hall, Guru Nanak Stadium, here at 10 am on August 9, 2019.

He informed that the sportspersons willing to participate in these trials should be as under. For U-14 tournament, the sportsperson should be born on January 1, 2006 or later, for U-18, on January 1, 2002 or later and for U-25, on January 1, 1995 or later. The sportspersons competing in these selection trials should carry their age proof along with Aadhaar card.
