Chandigarh, June 16, 2015: The Punjab Sports Department today announced the schedule of selection trials for players having age between 13 to 25 years to admit them in sports wings of various colleges for current academic session 2015-16 across the state from June 26.
A spokesman of the sports department today informed that trials would be held for various sports categories namely Athletics, Basketball, Boxing, Badminton, Cycling, Football, Gymnastic, Hockey, Handball, Judo, Kabbadi (national and circle style), Kho-Kho, Lawn tennis, Swimming, Table Tennis, Vollyball, Weight Lifting and Wrestling.
He said trials for college sports wings being administered under the jurisdiction of Punjab University, Chandigarh, would be held at Guru Nanak Stadium Ludhiana on June 26 for Boys and on June 27 for girls. The vacancies for sports wings which falls under Punjabi University, Patiala would be filled by selection trials at Polo ground, Patiala on June 28 for boys and next day for girls. On June 30 and July 1, the trials for college sports wings of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar would be held at state sports college, Jalandhar.
The spokesman has made it clear that candidates would have to apply for the same university where he/she aspires to join sports wing as allotted seat would not be transferred to other university. He said the universities would provide free education and residential facilities to the selected players besides giving Rs. 200 for refreshment for residential players and Rs. 100 to day scholars.
He said the players selected under the "speed fund scheme", would be provided Rs. 5500 per month each for refreshment, transport, education, medical facilities and sports kits. He said the candidates would have to report at the venue on the above said dates at 8 AM with all requisite educational and birth certificates.
