DC REVIEWS ARRANGEMENTS FOR BAISAKHI MELA, DIRECTS OFFICIALS TO ENSURE FOOLPROOF ARRANGEMENTS Ferozepur, April 8, 2019: Deputy Commissioner Mr Chander Gaind on Monday told that a special train and buses to martyrs’ memorial in Hussainiwala Border will be started to facilitate the people during the annual Baisakhi fair on April 14. Presiding over meeting with the officials in the district administrative complex, the deputy commissioner deputed sub-divisional-magistrate Mr Amit Gupta as overall in-charge of the fair and Block Development and Panchayat Officer will work as ‘Mela Officer’. DC Mr Gaind said that on April 14, a special train will be flagged off at 9 am to martyrs’ memorial in Hussainiwala, which would be followed by multiple trips upto 5 pm in the evening. He also directed Punjab roadways General Manager for starting buses to facilitate the people so that they don’t face any kind of problems. He said that three control rooms will be set up for the maintenance of law and order during the fair. The first control room will be established near the memorial, second near parking complex and third near bathing places near Sutlej River, he said and added a DSP level officer will have direct control over these control rooms. Moreover, he told BSF officials to make adequate arrangements of swimmers and life jackets near the river. However, DC clearly said that there will be a complete ban on taking a dip in the river. He also ordered health, Municipal Council (MC) and Public Health officials to ensure the availability of potable water, temporary toilets and cleanliness near Mela. Mr Gaind told that the temporary parking for the heavy vehicles will be made near Hussainiwala railway station and no such vehicle will be allowed to cross the bridge. The deputy commissioner told that the health department will ensure stationing of ambulances and five medical teams. He said that the first team will be stationed in railway ticket room, second at temprary bus stand and other three teams at three control rooms. The public health department will carry out cleanliness work in the pond situated at memorial, he said. The deputy commissioner said that MC, district development and panchayat officer will ensure proper cleanliness near the memorial. The Mela Officer will take the fees from allotted stalls in the fair and health teams will ensure proper checking of food items. On the occasion, ADC Mr Ravinderpal Singh Sandhu, SDM Mr Amit Gupta, Assistant Commissioner Mr Ranjit Singh and others were present.
