Special literary event on the topic 'Punjabi Kavita mey Jallianwala Bagh'

Chandigarh, March 29, 2019: Kahi Ankahi the literary forum of Department of Hindi, PU, today organized a special literary event on the topic 'Punjabi Kavita mey Jallianwala Bagh' as a part of series of events being held to commemorate the centenary year of Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Dr.Gurmeet Singh, Chairperson, Department of Hindi informed that, Dr.Jasbir Singh from Department of History, was the key speaker for today's event.
Dr. Jasbir began his discourse by drawing a vivid background of the Jallianwala Bagh event from a literary and historic background. Tracing the impact of the massacre on Punjabi poetry, he mentioned that a a change from romantic literature to political sattire and revolutionary poetry is seen during this time. He also informed that
initiation of Kavi Darbar and theme based poetry events started after Jallianwala Bagh event. He also quoted many examples from the poetry of the era and brought out the popular and recurrent themes and religious symbolism in the poetry of that time.
The event was conducted by research scholar Alka Kalyan. Sumvada, Shakuntala, Sumit and Pravin Malik participated in the interactive session after the lecture. Dr. Rajesh Jaisal from USOL and Dr. Bhavneet Bhatti from SCS also attended the event.
The Department began month long events to commemorate the centenary year of the masacre by organizing a special lecture by Prof. Anju Suri on 15th March who spoke about various aspects of the historic event. The movie club of the Department also screened the movie, Jallianwala Bagh on 22nd March as part of the series of events.
