Shimla, September 21, 2015: With a view to streamline the special children of  the Deaf and Dumb Institute, Dhalli, the Social Justice and Empowerment Department has decided to provide education to the students of 4th and 5th standards with other normal students at Government Primary School, Dhalli.

A spokesperson of the Department disclosed here today that these special children were being taken to Government Primary School (GPS), Dhalli twice a week i.e. on Friday and Saturday. These students were being taken to Dhalli school and back to the institute through taxi at free of cost from 18th September, 2015.

He said the idea behind the decision was to provide them consolidated education with other children and to involve them in extra co-curricular activities. This would also ensure their physical and mental growth and they would also not feel neglected and deprived.

The spokesperson said Himachal Pradesh Child Welfare Council was running the institute for the special children at Dhalli where free education was being provided upto 10th standard to the deaf and dumb children. Now the State Government had upgraded the institute as 10 plus two and the process was underway to fill up the posts of teachers and non teaching staff so that these children could continue their further education at this institute.

He said the State Government was providing special grant for running these institutes. A sum of Rs. 71.98 lakh was sanctioned during last year whereas for the current financial year Rs. 50.45 lakh had been released as first installment to these institutes.
