Ferozepur, October 27, 2019: A pall of gloom descended on Ferozepur on the sad demise of 50-year-old Kamal Sharma on October 27.
Sharma is survived by his wife Shahshi Sharma and two children, a son and a daughter. His son – Susmit – is pursuing law at Chandigarh while the daughter – Shubra – is studying Class XI.
Being a good orator and motivational speaker, Sharma, right from his college, was active in student politics and later become active leader of ABVP for 19 years, from 1985 to 2004.
In 2010, he was appointed state general secretary, BJP.
In 2012, Sharma was appointed political advisor to the then Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal. On January 15, 2013 he was appointed Punjab president of BJP.He resigned from the post of in 2015 amid a rift between party workers. At present he was a member of the National Working Committee of the BJP.
Today morning he had gone for a walk on the Mall Road where he suffered a heart attack and was taken to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Before leaving for the walk, Sharma had greeted people on Diwali through his Twitter handle, said a close aide.
In 2017, Sharma was diagnosed with irregular heartbeat and he was operated on to put stent in his arteries. He recovered fully and once again became active in politics at all levels. Recently, he campaigned in Haryana ahead of the Assembly elections.
As the news of his demise spread, social media groups were flooded with messages expressing their shock and sadness at the death of Sharma.
He was known to be a man of commitment and loved by one and all irrespective of political affiliation and was seen at almost all local social functions.
He had special love for his birthplace – Ferozepur – and was instrumental in getting various development works finished in time.
A large number of people – politicians, locals, social organization representatives – directly or indirectly attached with him were seen at his house since morning sharing his family’s grief and mourning his passing.
