SMO Phagwara Suspended Due To Negligence In Duty

Civil Surgeon Kapurthala Transferred On Administrative Grounds
Chandigarh, April 25, 2016: Giving a stern message to all the Government Doctors prescribing medicines to the patients from outside the Govt. hospitals, Sh. Surjit Kumar Jyani, Health & Family Welfare Minister, Punjab here today suspended the Senior Medical Officer of Sub-divisional Hospital, Phagwara Dr Narinder Singh on account of negligence. The action was followed after the surprise visit made by Ms. Vini Mahajan, Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Punjab to the Sub-Divisional Hospital Phagwara, wherein she observed numerous irregularities and also that the patients were being made to purchase medicines and laboratory tests from outside the hospital by the doctors, even after the Government's decision to provide various types of medicines, consumables and suture material, free of cost in all the Government hospitals of the state which includes 218 types of essential drugs. She found that even the indoor patients admitted in the hospital were not being provided medicines within hospital and were made to buy these from outside. Taking a serious note of the irregularity, the Health Secretary immediately discussed the matter with the Health Minister after which he directed that the services of Senior Medical Officer of the hospital may immediately be placed under suspension. The SMO of E.S.I. Hospital Phagwara has been given the charge of Civil Hospital, Phagwara.
Meanwhile, Government has also transferred Dr Varindra Singh, Civil Surgeon, Kapurthala against the post of Civil Surgeon Gurdaspur on administrative grounds. Dr HS Kahlon, Civil Surgeon Gurdaspur has been posted as the new Civil Surgeon of Kapurthala.
