Six Karbi militants killed in Assam

Guwahati, May 14 (IANS) Six Karbi militants were Wednesday gunned down by security forces in Assam's Karbi Anglong district, police said.

The six included self-styled commander-in-chief Kangthur alias Bikash Teron of the Karbi Peoples Liberation Tigers (KPLT). The rest of the five militants are yet to be identified.

A joint team of army and Assam Police launched an operation in Singhasan Hills in the district Wednesday morning.

A lethod gun, two AK-47 rifles, two 9mm pistols and 486 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, a police official said.

The KPLT has been involved in killings, abductions and extortion in and around Karbi Anglong.
