Sirmour farmers receive training at Nauni University

Twenty-five farmers from Shillai and Sangrah blocks of Sirmour district attended two separate training programmes at the Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni. The University’s Directorate of Extension Education organized the trainings.
The training coordinator, Dr Anil Sood informed that 15 farmers which included 12 men and 3 females, from Shillai attended a five-day training programme while 10 farmers from the Sangrah block attended a four-day programme. During the programme, the farmers received training on vegetable, fruit, flower and mushroom production.
Besides, organic farming, pest-management in fruit and vegetables, beekeeping and farming of medicinal plants were also taken up. It was the first time that these farmers were attending such a training.

Dr. VS Thakur, Director of Extension Education was the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony of the training. Addressing the participants, Dr Thakur urged the farmers to adopt modern farming techniques so that their complete farm area can be utilized to plant various kind of crops.
He added that the farmers should develop kitchen gardens at their homes where vegetables for their day-to-day use can be grown. He explained the importance of fertile land and shared some techniques for making the soil healthy. Dr. Thakur advised the farmers to set up self-help groups where they can sell their produce.
