A view of clash between supporters of Dera Sacha Sauda and Sikh factions over “Naam Charcha” at Village Jogewala of Block Makhu of Zira Sub-division of Ferozepur district on Sunday.

Ferozepur, November 16, 2014: The situation became extremely tense at Village Jogewala of Block Makhu of Zira Sub-division today when supporters of Dera Sacha Sauda and Sikh factions had a clash over “Naam Charcha”. Even the police had to resort for open firing to pacify the situation.
As per the information available, the followers of Dera Sacha Sauda were performing their “Naam Charcha’ (induction of new followers) at village Jogewala. Several Sikh organisation had converged at a nearby Sikh temple and were protesting against the Dera followers.
The Dera followers were stopped by these Sikh factions when they were leaving for Village Mehmoodwala, where another Naam Charcha was scheduled. Both group started heated arguments with each other which later converted in to a violent collision due to which at least nine persons were injured. Both groups pelted stones at each other and used sharp edged weapons.
As soon as the matter was reported, heavy police force was deputed to prevent the clash. All the top police officials including Munish Chawla, DIG, Ferozepur, Sukhwant Singh Gill, SSP, Ferozepur, Jagdev Singh, SHO, Makhu Police Station and Gurpreet Singh Saran, SHO, Zira Police Station, Davinder Parkash, SHO, Mallanwala Police Station reached there with heavy police force. Few police officials also sustained injuries due to this clash.
The situation was still tense at the village and both groups were demanding FIR against each other. No arrests were made till now by the police officials.
