Chandigarh, November 15, 2016: Renowned author and producer of highly acclaimed films on North-East, Sh.Shiv Kunal
Verma today highlighted the importance of understanding different regions of the country and their sensitivities.
Sh.Shiv Kunal Verma was delivering the prestigious Panjab University (PU) Colloquium Lecture at the Auditorium of Dr.S.S.Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology, PU.
PU Vice Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover presided over the public lecture. The colloquium was also attended by Maharaja Ranjit Singh Chair Professor in the Department of PU Defence & National Security Studies Lt. Gen (Retd.) K J Singh,
large number of teachers, research scholars and students.
While sharing his thoughts on the theme of ‘Blanks on a Map: A Journey through the North East ’, Sh. Verma spoke about his works including a pictorial on The Northeast Palette. He referred to the kaleidoscope of vibrant cultures, diverse ethnicities
and varied tongues through ‘East of the Kangchengdzonga’, ‘Brahma’s Creation’ and ‘Children of the Dawn’. He shared his experiences and anecdotes at Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura.
Sh. Verma said, “It is kind of vital that in India we begin to understand each other. Unless the west knows about the east, or the east knows about the west, north knows the south and the vice-versa, you will always be suspicious; you will always
have differences and issues”.
“Unless, we start understanding the subtle difference and where we all come from, we are not going to make any headway… the day we start dividing these narrow domestic walls which we talk about, the regional identities are important but we have to look
at those regional identities and hold on to them within the larger framework of national identity... and once we strike that balance, I think we will be fine”, he further added.
