Khatkar Kalan (Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar), September 28, 2017: Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh's philosophy is still as relevant as it was at the time of his martyrdom and we are proud of the fact that the soil of the Punjab gave birth to such a great warrior whose struggle for independence became a source of inspiration for the rest of the Indians.
Rana Kanwar Pal Singh, Speaker, Punjab Assembly expressed these views while interacting with media here today during his visit to Shaheed-E-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh's native village Khatkar Kalan to pay him floral tributes on his 110th birth anniversary. "Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh was one of the few people who actively participate in the struggle for independence rather than enjoying their youth. Today the naming of institutions, clubs, institutions and places in the name of Sardar Bhagat Singh is a testimony to the extent to which Hindustan and the people of Punjab are connected with our brave hero", said Rana K P Singh.
He said that those who die for the country's independence do not need any martyrdom certificate. "People themselves ranked those personalities as martyred who sacrificed their life for the freedom and safety of the country", said Rana K P Singh adding that the sacrifice made by Sardar Bhagat Singh is the biggest certificate of his martyrdom.
Remembering the mother of Shaheed Bhagat Singh on this occasion, Rana K P Singh said that he salutes the Punjab Mata, Mata Vidyavati, a great mother who gave birth to Shaheed-E-Azam, the revolutionary warrior who waxed the spell of freedom in the youth of the country.
Replying to a media query, Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha said that it is not suitable to say that we totally failed in making a country of Sardar Bhagat Singh's dreams because our country in its 70-years history of independence has been recognised as world's largest democracy besides making tremendous progress when compared to other countries of the Asian region like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan etc. "By repeatedly saying that regime of Sardar Bhagat Singh's dreams has not been established, we are not doing justice to all the politicians, farmers, scholars, young people, skilled administrators and judges who have contributed a lot for establishing and strengthening the sovereignty and socio-economic development of Independent India", added Rana K P Singh.
He said that the dream of equality dreamt by Shaheed-E-Azam has been achieved to a large extent with the elimination of the princely states and merging them into a democratic setup, but to fulfil the thoughts and dreams of Sardar Bhagat Singh further, we all have to perform our duties to eradicate poverty and gap between poor and rich.
Giving a message to the youth at the birth anniversary of Shaheed-E-Azam, Rana K P SIngh said that the diligent people of the country have a great deal of hard work to establish all the facilities and opportunities that we have got in legacy. Giving a clarion call to youth, Rana K P Singh said, "Youth should maintain the national spirit in their minds and work for the betterment of Punjab and the country. We should also take inspiration from the personalities like wrestler Dara Singh, former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, actor Raj Kapoor and Dharmendra, athlete Milkha Singh, G. Zail Singh, Master Tara Singh, Gurcharan Singh Tohra and Comrade Harkrishan Singh Surjit, who make us proud Punjabis in the independent India. We should also come forward to contribute in the progress of the country and Punjab".
During an informal meeting with the journalists of SBS Nagar, Rana K P Singh said that the museum in the memory of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh would be completed before March 23 and all other basic requirements of his native village Khatkar Kala would be fulfilled on priority.
Earlier, Rana K P Singh paid floral tributes at the statue of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh and memorial of his father Sardar Kishan Singh. He also registered his views in the visitor book at Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh memorial. Later, Rana K P Singh also visited Bhagat Singh's ancestral house and had a good time watching the things related to his family.
