SEVERAL NGO’s JOIN HANDS TO MAKE ROAD ALONG SIDHWAN CANAL GREENER
**TREE PLANTATION DRIVE ORGANISED ALONG SIDHWAN CANAL NEAR PAKHOWAL ROAD TODAY *LUDHIANA MUNICIPAL CORPORATION COMMITTED TO MAKE CITY CLEAN & GREEN: MAYOR BALKAR SINGH SANDHU Ludhiana, July 13, 2018: For the success of Mission Tandrust Punjab, several city based NGOs joined hands to make the road along the Sidhwan Canal greener. A tree plantation drive was organised in which more than 150 tree saplings of trees such as Amaltas, Gulmohar, Peepal etc were planted. Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu was the Chief Guest on the occasion while councillor Mamta Ashu was the guest of honour. After the plantation drive, a mini dust bin for commuters travelling in cars was also launched and 200 such bins were distributed free of cost to the commuters on Pakhowal Road. While speaking on the occasion, Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu said that Mission Tandrust Punjab is a comprehensive programme envisaged by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to bring in qualitative improvement in the lives of the people of Punjab. He said that all NGOs should join hands and mobilise the city residents to plant and preserve trees. Mayor Sandhu said that many a times, plantation drives have been undertaken by different organisations, but due to lack of upkeep, the plantation results are not significant. He said that when these saplings become fully grown trees, they would provide much needed shade during summer season and would also present a good picture. He said that the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation is committed for making Ludhiana clean and green. The NGOs that took part in today’s plantation drive included SGM Nishkam Sewa Society, students of Saint Bawra Public School, students of Digital Pathshala, members of Christian Community, Young Brigade Model Gram, Durga Mata Mandir Passi Nagar, Sanatan Dharam Mandir Vishal Nagar, etc. Prominent among those present on the occasion included councillors Sunny Bhalla, Dilraj Singh, Pankaj Kaka and Rupinder Kaur Sandhu, Albert Dua, Pardeep Dhall, besides several others.
