Senior resident Sunil Mehra seeks legal action against Mayor and Municipal Commissioner
Files complaint before Commissioner of Police Ludhiana alleging that he met with road accident due to potholes on the roads Ludhiana, October 10, 2019: City residents are difficulties due to potholes developed on the roads. Many minor accidents occur on routine basis. But, these accidents are hardly reported to the police. The most sufferers are the elderly persons riding two-wheelers, even those who walk on the roads especially during rains have to suffer a lot. However, the authorities concerned are seen least bother over the prevailing situation. In a recent incident, senior local resident Sunil Mehra, an ex-municipal councillor (Ward No.63), has met with the accident due to potholes on the road. It may be mentioned here that Mehra is president of Shivratri Mahautsav Committee Ludhiana, secretary of Hindi Parishad Ludhiana and secretary of Bhartiya Udyog Vyapar Mandal, Delhi. He has filed a complaint against Municipal Commissioner Ludhiana and Mayor of Ludhiana. Mehra has filed his complaint to Commissioner of Police Ludhiana stating that on October 2, 2019 he was on his way on motorcycle from Division No.3 to Madhopuri to attend a meeting of Beopar Mandal and when he arrived near the bank of Madhopuri Dariya he lost his balance over the vehicle and fell down due to potholes on the road. As a result, he sustained injuries on his forehead and other parts of the body following which he got unconscious. Luckily, Ashwani Mahajan, Parveen Sharma and Pawan Malhotra- all known to him who were passing from there saw him unconscious on the road following which they took him to USPC Jain Charitable Hospital, Sunder Nagar, Ludhiana. He added he was treated at the hospital following which he regained his conscious. He had sustained both external and internal injuries in this mishap. Further, Mehra stated in his complaint that the roads are in pathetic conditions in the city, resulting to which people are suffering like him on daily basis. However, city mayor and municipal commissioner are not taking any action to repair the roads. He added that both mayor and municipal commissioner are responsible for the mishap occurred to him. He stated that it was duty of both mayor and municipal commissioner to properly maintain the roads. He said Municipal Corporation Ludhiana used to collect various taxes from people but providing nothing in return to people. As such, the roads are in pathetic condition. At the end, Mehra has sought legal action against both mayor and municipal commissioner and registration of an FIR against both of them. It may be mentioned here that Mehra along with others had gone to submit his complaint to Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana.
