Jalandhar, March 9, 2019: PG Department of Journalism and Mass Communications organizes a seminar on Drone Journalism and its Applications. Officiating Principal Prof.Daljit Singh Bhatia graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Dr.Simran Sidhu and Prof.Priya Chopra were Key-Speakers. They were accorded a hearty welcome by Prof.Sandeep Chahal- Staff Secretary, teachers- Prof.Supriya, Porf.Harman, Prof.Chandani, Prof.Sukhvir and 82 students. Prof.Daljit Singh Bhatia said “With the advent of drones, the field of Journalism has been extremely benefitted because its provides 360 degrees aerial surveillance and a proper risk free reach to the remote and dangerous regions to be covered for journalistic and other purposes. Key speaker Dr.Simran Sidhu discussed in detail about the background and growth of drone technology. She highlighted the fact that drones are being used in various fields these days viz defence, natural disaster, health, armed attacks, wedding shoots, demining, anti terrorist operations, aerial combat, cargo delivery, data collection, aerial photography, acquiring target, force protection, spying, artillery spotting, battle damage assessment, health sector, civil and media etc.. She also discussed about uses and limitation of drones applications, various laws and restrictions while operating drones, which includes both national and international regulations. Prof.Priya Chopra discussed about how the visual capture through drone are creating a novel content for films, vlogs, coverage of natural disaster and news report from remote and unapproachable regions. Prof.Priya Chopra said that various developed and developing countries are using different types of hi-tech drones viz USA 18, India 5, Russia 3, Israel 5, France 2 etc. but Israel is dominating the world export of drones with share of 61 percent in world market, whereas USA leads in drone manufacturing.
