Ferozepur, December 1, 2012:  The Punjab government is serious to check and eradicate the menace of cancer from the state and a special movement has been started from December 1 to 21 to create Cancer awareness and to know its early symptoms among the people, said Janmeja Singh Sekhon, Punjab Irrigation Minister while flagging off the District Level Cancer Awareness Rally from Civil Hospital here.

Sekhon said, for the success of this movement, 45,000 trained workers in whole of the state would create awareness by visiting the each house and distribute the coloured handbill containing 12 major symptoms of cancer.  He said, these workers would identify the cancer patients by explaining the signs so that they are given treatment at the initial stage.

He further said, these workers would make awareness among the public about the seriousness of the disease to save the people from the clutches of death and stop increasing of number of cancer cases.

Sekhon said, Punjab government is giving the financial help of Rs.1.50 lakh, to the cancer patients besides making arrangements for the treatment of all diseases, at the big hospitals by identifying them in the mega medical camps.

On the occasion, Gurmail Sigh, ADC, Dr.Gurdit Singh, Civil Surgeon, Dr. G. S. Dhillon, Programme Officer, Dr.Davinder Bhukal, Dr. Harish Kataria, Dr. Ashutosh, J. J. Singh, Jaswinder Singh Butewala, Dr. Taranpal Kaur, Dr.Renu Singla, Dr. S. K. Parnami, Mass Media Officer, Maninder Kaur and representatives of various NGOs were present.
