Ferozepur, November 15, 2012: The improved quality wheat seed of high yield contents on subsidy of Rs.500 per quintal,  is being provided to the farmers, said Dr. S. Karuna Raju, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur.

Dr. Raju said, the purpose of providing the improved quality wheat seed is to increase the yield of wheat and the income of the farmers.  The farmers of the district are being provided the seed like PBW-5-2, DBW—17, PBW-55- and PBW-621 as certified by the Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana.

Deputy Commissioner informed, the farmers are also being provided the certified seed under National Feed Security Mission in 6 block of the district.  He further said that so far 225 qtl. PBW-502, 225 qtl. DBW-17, 250qtl PBW-55- and 850 qtl. PBW-621 on subsidy.  The cost of this seed in the market is Rs.2,250 per qtl. whereas the same has been provided to the farmers by the Agriculture Department at Rs.1750 per qtl.  He also appealed to the farmers to prepare the improved quality of seeds at their own in the coming season.

Paramjit Singh Sandhu, Chief Agriculture Officer, said, under the Seed Village Scheme, 56 villages have been selected under 6 blocks of the district and the improved quality wheat seed has been made available to the farmers on 50 per cent subsidy.  He further said, in every village, a group of 100 farmers have been formed and each farmer has been issued a seed for half acre.  In these selected villages, the Agriculture Department would organise three Farmers Training Camp right from sowing to harvesting.
