Chandigarh, November 16, 2016: The second Panjab University (PU) Book Fair started today at the PU Library.
PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Arun Kumar Grover inaugurated the Book Fair by releasing of tricolor balloons. The Book Fair is being organized by A C Joshi Library from November 16 to 20, 2016. It would be open from 11 AM to 7 PM daily. The Book Fair is
open for all the students and book lovers and there is no entry fees.
More than 30 reputed national and international Publishers and Distributors like Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Sage, NBT, Karger, Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla, Rampur Raza Library, UP, MBD, S. Chand etc.are participating in the event. The publishers have displayed their latest stock.
Addressing the inaugural function, PU VC Prof Arun K Grover stressed on making the book fair as an annual feature of knowledge city Chandigarh. He highlighted the benefits of Book Fair for the students and faculty. He visited the fair and
congratulated the Librarian and the exhibitors. He appreciated that the Book Fair was very well organized and wished it great success. A special grant has been released to all the departments for purchase of books from the Book Fair.
Earlier, PU Librarian Dr. Raj Kumar welcomed the guests, exhibitors and dignitaries.
During the inaugural function Ms. Navjeet Kaur, Deputy Librarian A C Joshi Library, gave a brief introduction of the journey of the Library over the last 50 years. Dr.Rashmi Yadav, Deputy Librarian proposed the vote of thanks followed by high Tea for
all the guests. More than 100 guests participated in the function.
Blood donation van of PGI was stationed at the venue to encourage voluntary blood donation and about 30 people donated blood on the occasion. More than 1000 students and other book lovers visited the PU Book Fair on its first day. In the afternoon Sh. BD Kalia Hamdam, President Ehsaas Adabi Society, Panchkula, delivered an interesting and inspiring talk on the topic literature as a way of life.
