Kapurthala, January 23, 2015: Science & Technology is playing a vital role in the socio-economic development of India. Punjab specially needs to exploit the potential of science & technology for solving its problems of drinking water, pollution control, improvement in health care services and solving the unemployment problem by industrialisation of the state. It is also necessary to develop an informed and knowledgeable society by inculcating scientific temper among the general masses and motivating students to take up careers in Science and Technology. In this direction, the Science City Kapurthala is playing an important role. A visit to  the Science City  must become a part of the course curriculum at various levels in the schools and colleges. The teachers should get benefit from the Science City in explaining the various concepts of science to the students in a simple way, this was emphasised by Daljit Singh Cheema, Education Minister Punjab, during the Prize distribution function of State Level Science and Math Olympiad at Science City on Friday. This programme was Jointly organised by Department of School Education Punjab and Science City. Further he also said  “With the motive of inculcating scientific temper among students, Education department will be organising science and technology related programmes like science exhibitions, INSPIRE program, Quiz competitions, seminars, etc at  Pushpa Gujral Science City.

C.Rahul Principal Secretary, School Education Punjab was also present on this occasion and he said, special classes for 45 minutes also being organised in Science City. 

KAP Sinha Secretary Science & Technology, Punjab appreciated the role of Science City in promoting scientific temper and creativity and innovation among the youth. He also revealed that efforts are being made to further upgrade it and add additional galleries and a request has been made to Govt. of India for grant of this purpose.  Efforts are being made to bring it in the tourism loop of Punjab so that Science City becomes a preferred destination for tourists visiting Punjab and for the school children to enjoy its multiple attractions in various areas of Science and Technology.

RESULT OF THE COMPETITION:

VI Class: First prize has been achieved by Jatinder Singh from Govt. Middel School Thikrian Fathegarh Shaib, Secon prize goes to Amndeep Singh from Govt. High School Kalitra and Satnam Singh from Govt. High School Fathegarh Shib has won Third prize,beside this 4 consolation prize has also delivered by Chief guest.

Class VIII:   Karnvir Singh from Govt. High School Hargobind Gurdaspur has won first prize, second prize bagged to Sandeep Kaur from Govt.High School Chanian Khurd Roper and Third prize has achieved by Deepak, Govt. High School Chack Prema Kapurthala.
