Chandigarh, August 20, 2014:   The Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes today had detailed deliberations with Chief Secretary Sarvesh Kaushal and impressed upon him for taking early steps to meet the pending issues of SC community.
Chairman of Punjab State Scheduled Caste Commission, Mr. Rajesh Bagha accompanied by Commission Member Parkash Singh Gardhi wala in the meeting with Mr. Kaushal also called for the forceful implementation of the ongoing Post Matric Scholarship Scheme meant for the meritorious children belonging to the under privileged community in the state. Emphasizing the need to monitor the scheme so that it could cater to the maximum number of the SC students, Bagha expressed apprehension that a few government and private institutions have been charging admission fee from the parents of the under privileged students whose income is less than Rs. 2 Lakh per annum. He also demanded a strict action against such institutions which were exploiting the scheduled castes students in the state.
The Chairman also said that the Punjab State Scheduled Caste Commission has always been guarding the interests of the under privileged and down trodden sections of the society. The main objective of the Commission is to identify the problems being faced by the members of this community besides focusing on the time bound redressal of their grievances.
The Chief Secretary assured the Commission of early steps to tackle the problems raised by them.
