SC Commission helps a student to get back her tuition fee @ 60000
Chandigarh, November 26, 2014: The swift and timely intervention of the Scheduled Caste Commission has helped a poor student to get back her tuition fee illegally received by a nursing college.
Narrating the incident in a press communiqué Rajesh Bagha, Chairmen, Punjab Scheduled Caste Commission said that Sukhwinder Kaur who belonged to SC category had to deposit Rs. 60000 as tuition fee even after presenting her SC certificate and income certificate. She complained about this to the SC Commission which acting quickly on her complaint sought full report from the college National Institute of Nursing Patiala road, Sangrur. After going through the report, the commission instructed the Principal of the college to waive the full fees of the student and return the fees deposited by her earlier.
Bagha said that the Punjab Government, under the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme has instructed all the government and private colleges not to demand tuition fee from the students belonging to SC category. He said that if any institution found demanding or receiving tuition fee from SC students, legal action would be initiated against such erring institutes.
Bagha also appealed all the students to approach the commission in case of any student belonging to SC category having a grievance regarding fees.
