SC Commission forms 2-member team to enquire Changaliwala incident

Chandigarh, November 19, 2019: The Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes on Tuesday formed a two-member team to enquire the Changaliwala incident. The team comprises Commission Member Gian Chand Diwali and Poonam Kangra would probe the issue jointly with the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and submit its report to the Commission.
Giving details in this regard, the Chairperson of Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes Mrs.Tejinder Kaur said that Commission had taken suo-motu of this seriously issue on the basis of news reports published on November 15 and sought comprehensive report from SSP Sangrur. She said that the Commission members Raj Kumar Hans and Poonam Kangra had met the victim family same day to initiate proceedings. The Chairperson said that on Monday she also met the family members at PGI.
The Commission has decided to conduct a joint enquiry with the National Commission for Scheduled Castes to get into the bottom of the incident. She said that the date was being fixed in consultation with the National Commission to initiate the probe.

HEALTH MINISTER MARKS INQUIRY TO PROBE ROLE OF MEDICAL OFFICER IN JAGMAIL SINGH’ DEATH CASE
Chandigarh, November 19, 2019: Taking strong notice of the alleged allegations on the Medical Officer for dereliction of duty in providing timely treatment to Jagmail Singh who subsequently died at PGIMER, Chandigarh, Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu, Health Minister has instructed Mr. Anurag Aggarwal, Principal Secretary Health to probe the matter and submit comprehensive report in three days.
Disclosing this official spokesperson of the Health Department said that as per media reports Jagmail Singh was initially taken to the government hospital and the Medical Officer on duty did not discharge his duty properly and did not file the MLR. Media reports had casted serious allegation on the part of Medical Officer on duty which become one of the reasons for the death of Jagmail Singh.
Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu has taken strong notice of this case and asked the Principal Secretary Health to inquire the role of Medical Officer on duty and submit report to him in three days.

PUNJAB GOVERNMENT STANDS WITH JAGMAIL’S FAMILY: SINGLA
Chandigarh /Sangrur, November 19, 2019: Cabinet Minister Mr. Vijay Inder Singla along with Vice Chairperson, Punjab State Planning Board Mrs. Rajinder Kaur Bhathal and other senoir officials, reached the village Changali Wala of Sangrur district on Tuesday and handed over a cheque of Rs 6 lakh to Jagmail Singh's family. The compensation cheque was given to Bhagwan Kaur mother of Jagmail Singh and his widow Manjit Kaur in the presence of other family members. Mr. Singla informed that the remaining amount of compensation would be given to the family on the bhog of Jagmail Singh.
Mr. Singla said that such incidents are intolerable and Punjab government stands with the family of the deceased. While talking to the media persons, Cabinet Minister said that all efforts would be made to ensure stringent punishment to the culprits within three months. He said that deceased’s widow would be provided a job by government. Besides, the State would provide Rs 1.25 lakh for the repair of the house of Jagmail Singh. The Government has also decided to provide free education up to graduation level to the deceased’s children studying in class ninth, sixth and first, the Minister added.
Mr. Singla said that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had issued directives that strict action should be taken on every aspect in this case. Meanwhile, Rajinder Kaur Bhathal said it was very cruel incident and government is committed to provide justice to the deceased's family.
Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ghanshyam Thori, SSP Sandeep Garg, District President Congress Committee Mr. Rajinder Singh Raja, SDM Kala Ram Kansal, SP Gurmeet Singh, DSP Buta Singh Singh and others were also present on the occasion.
