SBS Nagar disburses online shagun to 2923 families in last two years
Nawanshahr, December 15, 2014:Taking a leap forward towards implementing the welfare schemes for the beneficiaries of weakers sections, District Welfare Department has made payments of Rs 438.45 Lakh under Shagun Scheme, directly into the account of 2923 beneficiaries of the SBS Nagar district from April 2012.
Giving the details Deputy Commissioner Smt. Anindita Mitra said that the initiative was the part of the endeavour of the Punjab Government to facilitate the poor families with the amount of Shagun Scheme to solemnise the marriage of their daughters easily. To make transparency in the disbursement system, beneficiaries had been given online payment through the e-payment system.
Divulging further details, deputy commissioner said that earlier Rs 287.1 lakh were transferred to 1914 beneficiaries of 2009-10 and 2010-11 besides Rs 170.7 lakh to 1138 beneficiaries of 2011-12.
Apart from that, online transactions of Rs 194.55 lakh were made to 1297 beneficiaries of 2012-13. During last fiscal, an amount of Rs 207.60 lakh had been transferred into the accounts of 1384 beneficiaries directly whereas 242 beneficiaries had been given Rs 36.30 lakh as shagun, she added.
She further said that the online transaction process had been initiated by the state government with a motive of expediting the process of transfer of money besides saving the precious time of the people and to keep a proper tab over the transactions of the scheme thereby avoiding any possibility of fraud.
Deputy Commissioner further told that soon the beneficiaries would be given Shagun 15 days in davance from the date of marriage as Punjab Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal had issued the directions to the welfare department.
She said that all the girls belonging to families having income less than Rs 30,000 is eligible for the scheme.
