Ludhiana, April 25, 2015: Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) Punjab Chapter in association with Andhra Bank organised an interactive session with Sunil Kumar Sawhney, IRS, Principal Commissioner Customs, Ludhiana on Saturday at Ludhiana.
S C Ralhan, President, FIEO in his welcome speech said that the main focus of the new foreign trade policy is to encourage and support the manufacturing and services sectors with a special emphasis on “ease of doing business”. The government has taken a number of initiatives to facilitate and to promote exports and it is hoped that an export target of USD 900 billion by 2020 set by the government is within achievable limit. Ralhan said that FIEO has been making sincere efforts to look into the obstacles, problems and bottlenecks experienced by the exporter friends in their exports efforts and our today’s interaction session with Sawhney, IRS, Principal Commissioner Customs is one such initiatives. He said that it’s a matter of pleasure that government has reduced the number of documents from 7 to 3 for exports and 9-3 for imports.
Sunil Kumar Sawhney, IRS, Principal Commissioner Customs, Ludhiana said that custom department is very sensitive towards local issues of exporters and as and when any issues is flagged the department takes it very seriously. He said that department is pursuing the make in India policy very zealously and it strictly comply with the procedural reforms. Sawhney said that something needs to be done to create an enabling environment to make this industry re-energised. He urged President FIEO to bring into his notice the factors which stand against the industry or exports and which becomes obstacles in its re-energising process. Sawhney said that at the central government level both the commerce & finance ministry is emphasising over manufacturing & service sectors. He said on the sidelines of ease of doing business they are making endeavours in reducing the transition cost; reducing the documents and reducing the dwell time etc. Principal Commissioner Customs pleased the exporters by announcing the reduction in time of sanctioning the duty drawback from present 30 days to 15 days from June 2015 onwards a step which was highly applauded by the exporters. Sawhney emphasised the need for exporters to register for digital signatures which reduces their physical appearances in the department.
