Ludhiana, July 10, 2019: Joint Secretary of Labour and Employment Department, Government of India, Vibha Bhalla (IRS) calls head of all Government departments to take "Jal Shakti Abhiyan" seriously and make it a campaign to reach masses. Vibha Bhalla said that it is a need of an hour to save water.

Joint Secretary Vibha Bhalla held a meeting with the head of various departments at District Administrative Complex today. Nodal officer for Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Mr Amarinder Singh Malhi, SDM West also addressed the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, Vibha Bhalla said that "Jal Shakti Abhiyan" has been started in 225 districts of India with the motive to raise the groundwater level and stop wastage of water. Vibha Bhalla said that for this purpose the head of all the Government departments should take the campaign seriously and make it a public issue with coordination. The students, NGOs, Panchayats and social organisations should be involved in this campaign. The Government departments should chalk out the strategy to start a campaign.

Vibha Bhalla informed that in district Ludhiana, the campaign will be started in 12 blocks under which rain water harvesting, renovations of ponds, construction of watersheds, water recharge system and to raise the groundwater level would be the priority.

Amarinder Singh Malhi said that the head of Government department should submit their plans and information of activities which will be supervised by officials of Union Government. He said that the head of all departments should take the campaign seriously and also contribute in planting 550 saplings in each village as the part of Punjab Government's planning to celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji.
