`SATYAGRAHA’ ANNOUNCED: Nationwide “satyagraha” on Dec 18 &19- Tapan Sen

Ludhiana , November 4, 2012: The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) national general secretary and Member Rajya Sabha, Tapan Sen has said all the trade unions (TUs), alongwith federation of central and state government employees, will observe a nationwide “satyagraha” on December 18 and 19, gherao the Parliament on December 20 and resort to a two-day strike on February 21 and 22 next.

Addressing a rally, organised by Punjab Unit of CITU here today, he added these protests had been planned against the injustice being done to the TU workers and also, “common man”.

Further, he announced that the TU workers would hold a “chakka jam” , interrupting flow vehicular traffic, for two hours on December 18.

He strongly condemned the UPA-led government at the Centre, expressing concern on steep price rise, corruption and unemployment across the country. He also opposed the Centre for allowing FDI in rail in the country.

Sen felt that the ongoing policies of the Centre would ultimately prove “disastrous” for nation and the countrymen as well. He believed that the policies of the Centre were not favourable to the interests of the trade and industry.

He feared that MNCs would dominate in the future.

He did not spare the ruling SAD-BJP government in Punjab. He regretted that the state government was trying to suppress the trade union rights of the workers. He also regretted that the TU workers were not being paid minimum wages in the state.

Among others, Raghu Nath Singh, Vijay Mishra, general secretary and president, respectively, of state unit of CITU, spoke on the occasion.
