Chandigarh, October 13, 2015: The pace of procurement of paddy arriving in the various Mandis of the state has picked up as till October 12 a sum total of 17.10 lac MT of paddy and 1509 variety of basmati have been procured in the state . Out of it 15.98 lac MT have been purchased by govt agencies including the FCI and 1.12 lac MT have been purchased by private traders and millers.
It was disclosed by Mr. S.K.Sandhu, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Punjab who, on the directions of Chief Minister,  today visited district grain market kapurthala , Fatehabad Mandi  (Tarntaran) and  Tarntarn mandi and Attari mandi  district  Amrtisar to review the  procurement arrangements . He held a meetings with procurement officials , chairmen of market committees and arhtiyas . The farmers and arhtiyas expressed their happiness over the smooth procurement being made by the state  government .
Speaking on the occasion Mr.Sandhu said that this total procurement includes purchase of 2.05 lac MT of 1509 variety . He said that 10.88 lac MT of paddy was purchased in the state Mandies in the corresponding period of last year.
He further said that as per norms fixed for lifting the state government  agencies have lifted more than what is mandated under instructions. He said that out of 14.83 Lac MT purchased by state govt agencies 9.74 lac MTs have been lifted which  is 103 % of the target. He said that the agencies are required to lift the paddy within 72 hrs of the purchase . PSCM said that 1.84 lac MTs have been purchased in Kapurthala district so far and it is expected that 5.0 lac MT will arrive in the district Mandies . He said that 1.20 lac MTs which was purchased till October 10 have been lifted by the agencies which is 115% as per the norms.
During the visit at Tarn Taran some farmers complained that their produce has been purchased below MSP. PSCM visited their heaps and the officials of the agencies were directed to inspect the stocks and if found with in specifications should be purchased at MSP. He issue instructions that DC and other officials would stay in the Mandi to look into every such complaint. Secy Mandi Board has also been asked to send a senior officer from Chandigarh to tarn taran Mandi to enquire into these purchases and submit a report. Sandhu said that strict action will be taken against negligent officials based on the report.
At the last leg of his visit Mr. Sandu visited Attari Mandi in District Amritsar. The procurement at that mandi was smooth and  as per expectation of the government and farmers.
Mr. Sandhu said that the procurement is progressing satisfactorily in every district of the state and  all the Deputy Commissioners have been made in charge of procurement operations in their respective districts.
