Ludhiana, May 12, 2015: Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, B.R.S.Nagar Ludhiana organized the SHACL-2015 (Sacred Heart Alumni Cricket League) T-20 Tournament. The inauguration of the cricket league was done by the Director of the school Rev. Father John accompanied by the Principal of the school Rev Sister Christo.
First Match was played by two Alumni teams Super Seniors XI (students who passed out from school between 1994-97) captained by Ashish Thapar and Seniors XI (students who passed out from school between 1998-2001) captained by Shavinder Singh Sandhu.
Batting First Super Seniors XI scored 139 Runs in 20 overs with major contributions from Ashish Thapar 30 runs of 26 Balls and Pawan Sehgal who smashed 21 runs of 9 balls were sailing at one stage but 3 brilliant catches on the boundary by Seniors XI Captain Shavinder Sandhu with excellent bowling of Harpreet Hora ( 13 runs in 4 over and 1 wicket) Amarbir Pahwa 3 wickets for 22 runs and Shavinder Sandhu 1 wicket for 20 runs in 4 overs restricted them to a reasonable total. The turning point of the game was Punjab’s Ex Ranji Captain Ankur Kakkar’s wicket who was dismissed by Amrinder Sandhu for 26 runs.
Chasing 140, the seniors started off well with 37 runs in 5 overs without any loss but then the brilliant bowling spells from Pawandeep Sehgal (2 wkts for 17 runs) and Ashish Thapar (4 wkts for 13 runs) turned the game. But brilliant batting lower down the order by Varun Khullar 47 runs from 22 balls and Amarbir Pahwa’s 26 runs helped the Seniors XI clinch the game by just 1 wicket with 2 balls to spare.
Rev. Father John and the Principal Rev. Sr. Christo were so impressed with the enthusiasm of the ex students that they assured SHACL to be an annual event in the school calendar.
