Ferozepur, September 19, 2015: Keeping the old tradition alive, the 13th Rural Sports Mela, dedicated to Baba Kala Mehar started with pomp at village Jhoke Harihar on Friday. The main attraction of the first day of the mela was the women’s Kabaddi tournament in which 16 teams from various parts of Punjab participated. It is pertinent to mention here that in Men category, 24 Kabaddi teams (under 65 Kg) from every nook and corner of Punjab will be competing with each other on the second of this mela. .
The girls of Dev Samaj College for Women won the first prize and grabbed Rs. 21 Thousand cash award which was given to them by Punjab police officials Jasbir Singh and Sukhdev Singh. The Runners up team of Amritsar girls was awarded with a cash award of Rs. 15 Thousand by Congress leaders Satkar Kaur and Jasmel Singh Gehri. National Kabaddi player Ram Bateri was declared best raider while Randip Kaur, another national player participating in this completion was awarded as best stopper.
Earlier, the mela was inaugurated by Bibi Veero, the Sarpanch of the village, Amarjit Kaur Sandhu, Block Samiti Vice President and Krishna Kumari, the principal of government school, Jhoke Harihar.  Judge Dhanoa, the President of the organizing committee said that their society is committed to organize such events which will encourage the youngsters to participate in the games. On this occasion, Gurbachan Singh, Gurmej Singh, Karnail Singh, Amrik Singh Sandhu, Gamdur Singh sandhu, Daljit Singh Sandhu, Sukhpal Singh Sandhu, Jagsir Singh Sandhu and Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, prominent journalist and social worker were present.
