Chandigarh, April 28, 2015: Punjab Government enhanced allocation of Rs.8 crore as diet money to the players admitted in various sports wings in the state for the year 2015-16 against budgetary support of Rs.4 crore in the previous year. During the current academic session more than 4000 players have been admitted in sports wings and academies during selection trials recently ended.
Disclosing this a spokesman of Punjab Government said players selected for 13 games like Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, Judo, Athletics, Football, Gymnastics, Kabbadi, Wrestling, Hockey, Badminton, Table Tennis and Cycling would be admitted in the Punjab State Institute of Sports (PIS), Football Academy Mahilpur (Hoshiarpur), Sri Dishmesh Marshal Art and Sports Academy Sri Anandpur Sahib and sports wings of various schools and colleges (residential and day scholars) for current academic session.
Giving details he informed that 1000 players would also be admitted as day scholars in the sports wings setup in schools and colleges each. Besides, 700 players have been selected as residential scholars, out of which 500 would be admitted in schools and 200 in colleges.
He informed that department would provide Rs. 200 per day for diet to residential players and Rs. 100 per day to day-scholars as well as hostel, sports kits and equipments, coaching and training, facilities for education, transportation and medical amenities.
He also added that during the session 2013-14, the finance department had trimmed down allocation to Rs. 4 crore in the revised budget estimates resulting in non-payment to players during the session. He made it clear that pending amount had already been released related to session 2013-14 to 3281 players as department got sanction of Rs. 8 crore. Besides requisite money was also distributed to players admitted in sports wings during last fiscal.
