Chandigarh, July 16, 2013: The Punjab Government has set aside Rs.3080 crore  to convert all highways in the state into 4/6 lanes till January 2016 that would add another cap in the feather of the to make it first state in the country with all national and state highways with 4/6 lanes. This unique distinction of word class connectivity would help Punjab to attract more investment and to clock the target of one lac crore in next two years.

Stating this here today a spokesman of the Punjab Government said that work on nearly 398.9 KM long stretch was in full swing which would be completed till January 2016. He further said 230 kilometer  national highways have been six laned in last 5 years with the cost of Rs 1460 crore.

Calling the National Highways and State Highways as the life line of the state, the spokesman said that the Punjab government has taken up the matter with National Highways Authority of India for the timely completion of work on NH-1, 15, 64 and 71. He said that NH-1 from Shambhu Border to Jalandhar, NH-1A from Bhogpur to Mukerian, NH-15 from Pathankot to Amritsar and NH-95 from Ludhiana to Talwandi would be 6 laned in next three years. Besides that proposal to construct 101 KM new highways has been finalized worth Rs 700 crore.   

He said that  4 laning of NH-1 from Dhilwan to Amritsar at the cost of Rs. 263 crore, NH-1 from Amritsar to Wagah Border with Rs. 206 crore, Jalandhar to Bhogpur with Rs. 90 crore, Mukerian to Pathankot with Rs. 300 crore have already been completed. 

The spokesman further informed that the remaining stretch from Jalandhar to Dhillwan on NH-1 has been approved to convert into 6 lane which would give a big push to trade activities between Doaba and Majha region. Besides that 6 laning of three major links namely 4/6 laning of NH-95 from Kharar to Ludhiana, 4 laning of NH-21 from Kharar to Kurali has also been sanctioned, estimated to be  completed by December 2015, he added.
