Chandigarh, November 18, 2015: The Punjab Government has released the financial grant of Rs.17.55 crore to all the 47 Government colleges of the state to ensure the strengthening of infrastructure regarding Higher Education and providing quality and subsidized education to the youth.
Disclosing this, the Higher Education and Languages Minister, Punjab, Mr. Surjit Singh Rakhra said that this grant would go a long way in the strengthening of infrastructural facilities in the colleges as well as upgradation of 2 colleges as model colleges. He said that the equity grants issued to thye colleges would play a major role in the upliftment of girls education as also that of the students belonging to the weaker sections. Besides this, vocational education would also get the required attention and help in monetary terms.
Giving details of the grants issued to all the 47 government colleges of the state, the Minister said that the 37 government colleges had been given Rs. 14.25 crore for strengthening the infrastructure. Each college would get Rs. 37.50 lakh and would be equipped with latest facilities. He said that 2 government colleges at Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana would be developed as model colleges at a cost of Rs. 75 lakh each.
He said that 13 colleges situated at Ajnala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Tanda Urmur, SCD Government college Ludhiana, Government college Ludhiana, Mansa, Dhudike, Mohindra college Patial, Sunam and Tarntaran would get Rs. 92.62 Lakh for the vocational education. Each college would get 7.125 lakh grant. Disclosing further, the Minister said that all the 47 colleges have been given Rs. 88.125 lakh as equity grant under which each college would get Rs. 1.875 lakh. He said that equity grant is only for the students of weaker sections and girls.
