Ludhiana Civil Hospital to be upgraded from 170 beds to 400 beds

Chandigarh, September 4, 2012: The Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today approved the releasing of Rs. 55 crore for ongoing works under the health core-plan of Rs. 350 crore for the up-gradation of existing health institutions and the construction of new health institutions to improve the health care services in the state.

A decision to this effect was taken by Badal today during a high level meeting held here at Chief Minister’s office with the top brass of the state. It was informed in the meeting that Rs. 162.93 crore which were released by the state government under this prestigious health program had already been exhausted over the construction of 30 Community Health Centres (CHCs), 2 District Hospitals, 7 Sub-Divisional Hospitals, 36 Primary Health Centres (PHCs), besides supplying health equipment in various health institutions and there was an immediate need of more funds for the timely complication of these works.

Taking part in the deliberations the Chief Minister said that for the fulfillment of its commitment to provide world-class health infrastructure and health care facilities for the people of Punjab, the SAD-BJP government would left no stone unturned. Emphasizing the need to improve the health care facilities in the Kandi area, Badal asked the senior officers of the Health department to chalk out a comprehensive plane in this regard. He also approved a plan of Rs. 5 crore for the construction of new Community Health Centre (CHC) at Kamahi Devi.

Showing concern over the dilapidated condition of the old building of the hospital at Nabha, the Health and Family Welfare Minister Madan Mohan Mittal mooted a proposal for the construction of a new Hospital at Nabha and up-gradation of Civil Hospital Ludhiana by enhancing its capacity from 170 beds to 400 beds under the health core plan. Approving the proposal, Badal asked the health department to prepare a detailed plan along with the requirement and the availability of the land.

Prominent amongst those who were present in the meeting included, Health and Family Welfare Minister Madan Mohan Mittal, Principal Secretary to CM, SK Sandhu, Principal Secretary Health Vinni Mahajan, Principal Secretary Finance Satish Chandra, Special Principal Secretary to CM, Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, CA GAMADA AK Sinha, CA PUDA Manvesh Singh Sidhu and MD PHSC Mr. Raji P. Srivastava.
