RGC holds seminar on history of Harivallabh
Ludhiana, January 16, 2019: To mark the release of a research encyclopedia on the history of Punjab’s famous Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan, the P.G.Dept.of Music, Ramgarhia Girls College organized a seminar and honored the author Mr. Rakesh Dada today. The book is titled ‘Harivallabh - A Tradition of Musical Geniuses’ and in its 400 pages, it traces the 142 year old history of the Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan, the largest living festival of Hindustani Classical Music in the world. This book compiles old photographs, press clippings and memories of musicians and the audiences over the years. It records year-by-year performances of maestros like Ustad Bismillah Khan, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia and Pt. Rajan and Sajan Mishra. This book is a labour of love penned by the Treasurer of the Harivallabh Mahasabha, Mr. Rakesh Dada. Mr. Bhupinder Malhi of Virasat Foundation, Canada has been instrumental in funding the project. Mr. Ranjodh Singh, the photographer-industrialist of Ludhiana, has provided the publication forum at Wisdom Collections and beautifully illustrated it with photographs. The book was released by Sri Satguru Uday Singh Ji of Sri Bhaini Sahib, which added value to the treasure-house of music. Padam Bhushan Dr. S.S. Johl presided over the function and Prof. Gurbhajan Gill, former President, Punjabi Sahit Akademi, Ludhiana spoke on the rich musical legacy of the festival. Students of P.G.Dept.of music presented a classical composition as a tribute to all the artists who have graced the festival with their presentations over the last 15 decades. Sharing her views on the occasion Principal, Dr. Inderjit Kaur praised the efforts of the author and the publisher for such a beautiful creation. It will be very helpful for the students to do research work in this field. Mrs. Charanjit Kaur, head of the dept. gave the vote of thanks.
