RESIDENTS TO BE EDUCATED ABOUT WAYS TO CHECK VECTOR-BORNE & WATER-BORNE DISEASES: DEPUTY COMMISSIONER

Ludhiana, July 13, 2018: Deputy Commissioner Mr Pardeep Kumar Agrawal today directed the officials of Health Department, Municipal Corporation, Nagar Councils/Committees to ensure that residents are educated and made aware about vector-borne and water-borne diseases, such as dengue, malaria, chikungunya, etc so that they can be kept under check. The Deputy Commissioner issued these directions while chairing a district level Dengue Monitoring Committee meeting under National Vector Borne Disease Control at Civil Surgeon Office, here today.

During the meeting, Mr Agrawal directed the MC Officials as well as Executive Officers of Nagar Councils/Committees to ensure that they should immediately get all garbage dumps cleared from their respective areas and make sure all garbage is shifted to the dumping sites. He also directed them to ensure that after the garbage dumps are cleared, they should be covered with a fresh layer of sand and a spray of methyl powder is done there. He directed them to ensure that there is no accumulation of water on all overhead water tanks, vacant plots or anywhere else and public should be educated with the help of pamphlets and public announcements.

The Deputy Commissioner urged the residents to not consume bad quality fruits and vegetables and should consume only boiled or clean water. He said that people should themselves keep their surroundings clean and don’t let water to accumulate there and observe every Friday as a dry day. He said that the larvae responsible for Dengue fever takes a week to become a fully grown mosquito and that is why, all air coolers, pots, fridge trays and other such places should be kept dry every Friday so that the larvae doesn’t become into a mosquito.

He asked the Civil Surgeon to ensure that fogging should be carried out in slums, areas around nullahs and all those places where water is accumulated. He also asked him to organise awareness camps in different areas and distribute chlorine tablets free.

Mr Pardeep Kumar Agrawal directed the Education Department officials to educate the students about ways to check vendor borne and water borne diseases during morning prayers daily. He also directed heads of all government departments to ensure cleanliness in their respective areas.

Civil Surgeon Dr Parwinderpal Singh Sidhu, Joint Commissioner MC Mr Satwant Singh and officials from other government departments were also present.
